All You Need to Know about Alaro City: Before You Buy
Alaro City is a joint venture between Rendeavour, one of Africa's largest urban city developers, and the Lagos State Government. Rendeavour has over 12,000 hectares (30,000 acres) of city-scale developments in the growth trajectories of large cities in Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia, and Democratic Republic of Congo.
Rendeavour and Lagos State Government, through their subsidiary, North West Quadrant Development Company (NWQDC), conceived Alaro City as a 2,000-hectare, market-led project.
International Partnership
Alarocity is backed by American, Australian, Norwegian, New Zealand and British investors, who have jointly invested over $250 million in the city.
Masterplan of Alarocity
The master plan of Alaro City was designed by Skidmore Owings and Merril (SOM), a Chicago-based architectural firm in collaboration with Arup, responsible for the infrastructure masterplan, and the engineering designs for the infrastructure works including drainage, utilities, pavings, and roads.
Alaro City is one of the fastest-growing real estate and urban development projects in Nigeria.
How Big is Alaro City
Alaro City is conceived on 2,000 hectares of land in the Lekki Free Zone and will have spaces for light industrial, commercial, residential and other complementary uses. For context, this is 20 million square meters, twice the size of Victoria Island; and a combination of Eko Atlantic and Victoria Island.

Is Alarocity Located in Ibeju Lekki or Epe?
Alarocity is strategically located along the Epe and Ibeju Lekki corridor - with excellent connections to different parts of the state. Geographical Alaro City falls along the border of Ibeju-Lekki just before Epe but the development's name carries deep historical significance, drawing from a celebrated Epe ancestor named Alaro, a renowned fisherman whose legacy lives on in local festivals. The developers chose this name as a tribute to Epe's rich heritage and its founding pioneers. Some of the important neighbors to Alarocity is the Lekki International Airport, Deep Sea Port, and the Lekki Lagoon. Lekki Epe Expressway and Ijebu Ode-Epe Expressway are the major Expressways to the city.
The largest Deep-Sea Port in West Africa is currently under has been commissioned and is located to the south of the city and a bridge links Alarocity to other Free zones namely Dangote Refinery and the Freezone by LFZDC.
An international airport over 2000 hectares is at planning stage and will be located adjacent to the Alaro city along the Lekki Epe expressway.
Alarocity; Within Lekki Freezone
Just like Eko Atlantic in Victoria island, Alarocity is a freezone, in the North West Quadrant of the Lekki Free Zone, Lagos, Nigeria. It is the only free zone along the Lekki epe expressway and is the largest mixed-use zone among other free zone quadrants.
This free trade zone has tons of incentives that is attracting investments from all over the world because of the many free zone benefits.
Some of these benefits include exemption from:
- Corporate income tax on free zone income.
- Withholding tax on dividends.
- VATs on purchases made within the free zone.
- Custom and excise duities on imports.
- Fx controls and de-dollarization policies.
All the free zones are managed by various operators and what sets Alaro city apart from the other free zone managed by Lekki Free Zone Development Company (LFZDC) is that it is the only freezone along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
Also, per the master plan, Alarocity seems more organized and the investors and partners involved are not majorly Chinese but from a diverse background of Norwegian, American, and British investors and partners.

Current Status of Alaro City
- Award-winning master plan designed by internationally renowned design company, Skidmore Owings & Merrill in conjunction with Cityscape.
- Master plan and Environmental Impact Assessment approved by Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning & Urban Development and Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency. EIA was approved by Federal Ministry of Environment.
- Construction of a 6km, four-lane asphalt road with 4 metre median is underway, designed by leading global engineering consultants ARUP.
- Alaro City’s main boulevard by Craneburg. The main boulevard, being the highest standard in Alaro City’s road hierarchy, is an eight-lane, 60 m right-of-way road and will be the widest road in the Lekki Free Zone upon completion.
- Sixty-nine industrial and commercial off-takers at different phases of planning and development.
- Engineering designs for the Industrial Boulevard and Greenways 1 and 2 and storm water channels are completed. Construction of Greenways 1 and 2 is ongoing.
